Secure Access Code Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The secure access code you receive to log into the new SCU Online is a multi-factor authentication measure that protects your financial information.

The following scenarios will require the need for a secure access code every time you log into the new SCU Online:

  • If your browser is set to not accept cookies.
  • Your browser is set to automatically delete cookies each time you close your browser.

If you log in using a different browser or computer that has not been registered, you will be prompted to use a secure access code to login.

If you do not want to use a secure access code each time you log into SCU Online, your browser needs to be set to accept and store cookies on your PC.

IMPORTANT NOTE- If you are using Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) you need to bookmark (favorite) the password page and be sure the “Preserve Favorites Website Data” box is checked. Click here for detailed instructions and screen shots. Due to IE9 deleting all history this will alleviate you having to get an access code each time you log into SCU Online.

Challenge Code

If your browser is set to delete cookies and browsing history, you have the option to enter a challenge code instead of a Secure Access Code.   To set up the challenge code option, click on Security in the SCU Online navigation menu. Enter a challenge code of your choice and click on Submit.  The next time you are prompted for a Secure Access Code, you will be able to choose the option “I want to login using my challenge code”.  You will then go to the page to enter your challenge code.

Important: When you log in using a challenge code, the tabs for Secure Delivery, Challenge Code, and Alerts on the “Security” page will no longer appear. This is another security feature of the system. If you need to make changes through any of these tabs, you will need to login using a secure access code if your computer is not registered.

    SCU Online FAQ's

    Navigation

    Q.  What is the Quick Action Icon and what does it do?

The Quick Action Icon appears as a lightning bolt next to your accounts within SCU Online.  This icon lets you quickly view account details, account history, and pending items on your account.  Plus, it allows you to quickly make a one-time transfer between accounts.  Click here for detailed instructions and screenshots.

    Q.  I want to do something that isn’t displayed in the Quick Action Icon’s menu.  What do I do?

The Quick Action Icon (lightning bolt) gives you quick access to common actions.  For all other actions not listed in the Quick Action Icon menu, use the Full Navigation Menu located on the left-hand side of the screen in SCU Online.

    Security

    Q.  What is Multi-Factor Authentication and why do I need it?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an added layer of security to protect your account information.  The company we have partnered with for SCU Online has implemented the Secure Access Code as their means of MFA.

Using a Secure Access Code for MFA complies with the rules set by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC).  Along with other financial institutions, Scott Credit Union is restricted by the rules of the FFIEC.

    Q.  What is a Secure Access Code?

A Secure Access Code is a number that will be sent to you by a method other than online banking to ensure that we are connecting to the correct person.  This is an added layer of security to protect your account information.

    Secure Access Code Delivery

    • Secure Access Codes can be received via phone call, text message, or email.
      • Secure Access Codes are never left on voice mail.
    • Unused Secure Access Codes expire after 20 minutes.
    • Used Secure Access Codes immediately expire and cannot be reused.

    Q. When I sign in, I don’t have any phone or email address that I can use to get a Secure Access Code delivered. What do I do?

Please contact Scott Credit Union’s Member Service Center at 800-888-4728 or 618-345-1000 to provide the missing information and receive help logging on.

    Q. I have set up a new password and registered my browser. I have selected “activate this computer for later use”, but each time I log in, it makes me go through the browser registration process (where I have to get a Secure Access Code). Why?

The most likely explanations for being required to register your browser multiple times are:

    • Your browser is not set to store Cookies from the SCU Online server.
    • Cookies are automatically deleted each time you close your browser.
    • You are logging on from separate browsers or separate computers.

Challenge Code - If your browser is set to delete cookies and browsing history, you have the option to enter a challenge code instead of a Secure Access Code.

Click here for detailed instructions and screen shots.

    Q.  What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file placed on your hard drive that permits a website to store information about your visit. Most cookies are harmless, particularly when received from websites such as your SCU Online account. In this case, the cookie that is stored on your PC during login allows you to bypass the Secure Access Code whenever you access online banking in the future. The secure cookie will periodically expire or be erased on your computer and will need to be re-established on your computer again.

    Q.  Will my SCU Online username and password work for Mobile Banking?

Your SCU Online username and password will work for Mobile Banking after you enroll for Mobile Banking within SCU Online.  You will be able to log on to Mobile Banking after following these short steps:

    1. Log On to SCU Online and click Mobile Enrollment found under Preferences in the Navigation Menu.

    2. Be sure the checkbox for Mobile Enrollment is checked. If you would like to have the web address for Mobile Banking sent to your email, be sure the correct email address is showing  on this screen.

    3. Click “Mobile Authorizations” tab and enter your desired 4-digit authorization code. This code is part  of the added security, and will be required for any Mobile transactions.  Click Submit when finished.

You are now ready to log on to SCU Mobile Banking.  If you are using an Android or iPhone, there is an SCU Mobile application available for download.  Or, simply visit m.scu.org on your mobile device to log in to the mobile web-based application.

    Q.  Your “forgot password” system doesn’t seem to work!

“Forgot Password” can only be used if your online banking account is not locked out. Entering an incorrect password three (3) times in a row locks you out of the system. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to your account. If you think you have forgotten your password, do not keep trying to log on.  Instead, click the “Forgot Password” option to begin the procedure of logging into your account.

    Miscellaneous

    Q.  Where can I view my pending items that haven’t posted to my account yet?

The fastest way to view Pending Items on your account is to use the Quick Action Icon (lightning bolt).  Simply roll over the lightning bolt that appears next to your account until you see the Quick Action Icon menu.  If there are Pending Items on the account, you will notice a Pending Items option in the menu.  Select Pending Items to view.

Note - If there are no Pending Items on the account, you will not see that option in the menu.

    Q.  I have a Mortgage with SCU.  Can I access that information within the new SCU Online?

With SCU Online, you can view your Mortgage information without logging on to the Mortgage information website.  Simply click “Mortgage” in the Navigation Menu inside of SCU Online.

    Q.  I have a Credit Card with SCU.  Can I access that information within the new SCU Online?

With the new SCU Online, you can view your Credit Card information without logging on to the Go To My Card website.  Simply click “Credit Card” in the Navigation Menu inside of SCU Online.

    Q.  When I try to view my Credit Card information, I am sent back to the Account Overview screen.  Why can't I view Credit Card information?

When you click to view your Credit Card information, your browser will open a new window to display the Credit Card information from the Go To My Card site.  If your browser is set to block pop-up windows, you may need to enable pop-up windows to see your Credit Card information.

    Q. With Quicken, what is the difference between Web Connect and Express Web Connect?

Web Connect (WC) users log-in to SCU Online, download data, and then upload data to Quicken.  This is the recommended method.

Express Web Connect (EWC) users enter their SCU Online username and password within Quicken, and then Quicken logs into SCU Online on the user’s behalf.  This method is not supported by SCU Online and therefore, not recommended.
